Open Mic / Dramatic reading presentation of participants' works will be held on the 10th of September 2023 at 3pm.
This weekend-long event marries an exhibition and a series of creative writing workshop that will lead to a competition. The exhibition will display Anwar’s photography works of disappeared places in Singapore, namely the old Geylang Serai Market, the old Geylang Serai’s Ramadan Bazaar, the removed Geylang Serai Malay Village, National Stadium in Kallang and etc. The objective of this exhibition is to evoke memories of the disappeared places. We may have lost the places, but the photographs will last forever, and the memories will last for as long as we can remember to reminisce.
Within the walls of the exhibition, Anwar will conduct the Malay creative writing workshops with the theme of reminiscing places or people who are no longer around. In this workshop, Anwar will share with the participants the art of crafting a literary piece based on places and people, creating characters, and writing rhymes into poems, quatrains, verses, monologues, prose, etc.
The event will close with an Open Mic session for participants to share their pieces with the general audience and visitors to the exhibition. Participants shall submit their works for jurys' adjudication. Winners shall be announced in late October 2023. Winning pieces will be presented in a showcase in January 2024.
